What to expect during dental implant recovery
Immediately following dental implant surgery, the appearance of some blood in the saliva is to be expected. Patients are advised to place gauze in the mouth to control the bleeding until it subsides. Swelling is also a common occurrence during the first three days following surgery and can be minimized by the continuous application of ice to the affected area. Committed to your post-operative comfort and safety, Dr. Mizrahi will prescribe medication to alleviate the pain, as well as antibiotics to prevent infection.
Dr. Mizrahi will also prescribe Peridex Oral Rinse to ensure optimal oral hygiene during recovery. Beginning the day after surgery, you will rinse with Peridex twice daily, after breakfast and before bed. In addition, Dr. Mizrahi will recommend salt water rinses four to five times a day, especially after meals.
Patients should only eat cool, soft foods and liquids for the first 24 hours, as well as avoid strenuous activity for several days. For ten days following the procedure, you should only wear your prosthesis, or dentures, in social situations to ensure the healing process is not interrupted.
